Frequently Asked Questions
DIY Home Remodeling Questions
- Question:
Can I remodel my own home if I don't have any construction experience?
- Answer:
Yes. 95% of our owner-builder clients have no construction experience at all, and they do just fine because their UBuildIt Construction Consultant is there providing advise every step of the way.
- Question:
I'm not handy at all. I can't even pound a nail in straight. Does that matter?
- Answer:
No. With the UBuildIt process, most of our clients do very little physical work. They use everyday business tools; phone, computer, and a day planner, to manage their remodel project.
- Question:
Won't it be a full time job running my own project?
- Answer:
No. On the average, most of our clients spend 2-3 hours a day making calls, paying bills and checking the work on their project.
- Question:
How much can I save with UBuildIt?
- Answer:
Since you pay for materials and subcontractors directly, there is no markup on labor and materials. This allows you to put more of your budget into higher quality materials and labor, building even greater equity in the project. How much varies from project to project. And if you would like, you can create even more equity by doing some of the work yourself. Our compensation is based on a fixed fee that takes into account the size and complexity of your project.
- Question:
What if I can't get an owner-builder loan locally?
- Answer:
Many mortgage lenders look favorably on UBuildIt owner-builders because of our track record of building and remodeling quality homes that are worth more than the original mortgage amount.
- Question:
Who pays the bills?
- Answer:
You do. You control the money and monitor costs as the project progresses.
- Question:
How can I find good subcontractors?
- Answer:
UBuildIt can provide access to quality subcontractors who have proven track records. They deliver quality service and competitive pricing. Plus, you'll have instant clout as a UBuildIt client because of the volume of work we do with them.
- Question:
Can I use my own subcontractors?
- Answer:
Yes, because you are in charge.
