Custom Home Construction Questions

Question:
Can I build my own home if I don't have any building experience?
Answer:
Yes. 95% of our clients have no building experience at all, and they do just fine because their UBuildIt Construction Consultant is there providing advice every step of the way.
Question:
I'm not handy at all. I can't even pound a nail in straight. Does that matter?
Answer:
No. With the UBuildIt process, most of our clients do very little physical work. They use everyday business tools—phone, computer, and a day planner to manage their construction project.
Question:
Won't it be a full time job running my own project?
Answer:
No. On the average, most of our clients spend six to eight hours a week making calls, paying bills and checking the work on their project.
Question:
How much can I save with UBuildIt?
Answer:
Since you pay for materials and subcontractors directly, there is no markup on labor and materials. This allows you to put more of your budget into higher quality materials and labor, building even greater equity in the project. How much varies from project to project. And if you would like, you can create even more equity by doing some of the work yourself. Our compensation is based on a fixed fee that takes into account the size and complexity of your project.
Question:
What if I can't get an owner-builder loan locally?
Answer:
Many mortgage lenders look favorably on UBuildIt owner-builders because of our track record of building and remodeling quality homes that are worth more than the original mortgage amount. We can refer you to one of the many lenders that we work with every day.
Question:
Who pays the bills?
Answer:
You do. You control the money and monitor costs as the project progresses.
Question:
Do I need to find land or have my building plans before I call UBuildIt?
Answer:

Question:
Can UBuildIt help me with home plans?
Answer:
You can take advantage of UBuildIt’s relationship with qualified architects and designers. We will connect you with local professionals who will work very closely with you and your consultant as your plans are being developed or to adjust existing plans to local building practices. Your UBuildIt consultant will also make suggestions throughout the design process to keep you on budget and help you build a better home.
Question:
When should I start building?
Answer:
Every month, the price of materials and the cost of land increases. Whether you are thinking of building in a few years or a few months, it is important to understand what effect waiting has on the cost of your project. In some areas, these cost factors will be much higher than others. That may influence your decision to start planning and building sooner. You could pay thousands of dollars more for your home two years from now than if you started the planning and building process now.

Take this opportunity to go into your local UBuildIt office, meet with the consultant and talk to them about what you want to do. Go over your budget and let them provide guidance in determining your next steps. This will help you make an informed decision on when to start building.
