Universal Design - Developing Custom Home Plans for Aging in Place

Universal Design, or Aging in Place, is the practice of designing a home to meet the needs of aging and/or physically challenged family members. Driven by the aging Baby Boomer population many homes will require attention to “aging in place” concepts to create healthy, accessible living environments.

Create a space that fits your changing lifestyle

If you want your future home to accommodate the use of a wheelchair, sight or hearing impairment, or any other disability requiring special features in your home, those can be included in your plan. These considerations may include the need for wider doors and hallways, easier-to-operate latches and appliances, and user-friendly bathrooms and kitchens.

Incorporating these features early in the planning process can reduce costly changes or additions later in the building process.
