A common and excellent question that we here at UBuildIt are asked on a daily basis is: What is building ‘green’ and why do it.

The answer simply put is: "Green building" (also known as "sustainable," "ecological," and "eco-designed") is a way of looking at buildings in terms of reducing energy use, conserving water, improving indoor air quality, and reducing dependence on our natural resources.

This is a fantastic goal but we found a huge discrepancy with people in our industry regarding Green Building and so UBuildIt has taken the concept in a slightly different direction.

Did you know that there are a  number of different types of Green Build ratings systems and even they don’t agree on what is truly of benefit and what is not?

For example. If you chose a product that lowered your energy bill by $150 a month that would be fantastic but what if that same product raised your mortgage payment by $225 a month? Is it still a good value? Is it even still the best option for the environment?
